divinations

If you find an acorn in your shoe, someone is trying to apologize but can’t
find the words. The strawberry seed stuck in your teeth is a reminder to mind
your judgements. A pen that runs out of ink in the middle of a list is a nudge
to abandon the list. A crumpled bill in the dryer asks, “What else are you
neglecting?” Two dandelions meeting at the tips of their petals means
you don’t have to go it alone. If the postal worker leaves no mail for three days,
it is time to throw a dinner party. Your favorite song piped through the aisles
of your local grocery is a message from the dead: Let nothing escape
your celebration. The first summer ant in your kitchen, an invitation to let
the courage that’s been ripening in you take one visible step forward.
