a reading

It’s the time for squirrels and asters. But in your hurry, you cannot marvel
at a thrust of blooms drawing a zigzag chorus of bumblebees. When you think
in terms of predator or prey, you overlook the beauty of the dwindling berries
on the trellis. The ocean will not tell you its secrets the further you wade in.
But to stay at the outskirts, you have to forge a companionship among
the stoic rocks. Do not wear your fear like a costume boa, parting the room
before you even enter it. Get quiet enough to listen to the snail rearranging
the furniture in its own home. What does repair look like without
a safety pin? Can you imagine a way without imagining a way?
There is the story you tell, and the story you know.
