the narrator and her story

What she wants to say is what it looks like from the inside,
a vague outline of a path leading into the woods, though
they aren’t ever as dark as that sounds. What she wants to confide
is that, while unclear and uncertain, the compass nevertheless does know
the way and it will get her there eventually. If she had the words,
she’d be able to describe the reason and context for each swing
in the storyline, give a discrete shape to each motive, like birds
carving long Vs from the sky as they aim for home. She’s heading
there too, but it takes everything she knows just to keep her flying steady.
Don’t worry. She is happy with this wayward course. She’ll tell you when she’s ready.
