revival
Beyond expectation or reason, the bonsai is making a comeback,
a burst of optimism announcing itself in tiny, new shoots.
Whether it was the drought or the rain, I'll never know -
I left it long ago, languishing under my spotty, inexpert care -
but here it is, beginning again, on the cusp of a revival.
I wonder if the roots knew they had it in them, or if
they were surprised as I was, finding themselves fluttering awake
from a touch they could not recognize. I wonder if they, too, blushed
at their resurrected beauty, this green they had believed long dead
still whispering, unstoppably, inside them.
