Maybe you’ve heard this, but just in case **

Hello, children and grandchildren. Have I shared this story with you?
I want to create a folder with photos I have of trees. I am imagining a modified ritual—
candle lighting, blessings and then, primarily, questions. A song or two is also essential.
"Somewhere over the Rainbow" suddenly comes to mind. I will bring garden tools.

I have a room to myself here, very small and cozy, with a wicker chair by the window.
I find myself drawing the harbor scene below, with interest and patience. I feel such joy
as I witness this experience. Barbara tells me to celebrate with whipped cream.

I head back to the mainland tomorrow. Here are some poems to send you on your way.
Let me know what you think, and take your time. There is nothing to apologize for.
There is brisket in the oven. A nest is taking shape on the lattice. I think we’ll be safe.

** In honor of my mother’s 74th birthday, I’ve collected various lines from emails she has sent over the last few years (including the line that serves as the title) and woven them together here.
