reinvention **

You could enter to win a cookbook, or sign up for the membership luncheon,
or purchase a year’s subscription at a reduced price. You could read the most
anticipated books of the season or take the certification webinar, or attend
an artist reception or pay for one night and stay for two or make a road trip resolution.
There are new rewards waiting, and popular homes, and a contest accepting
unpublished haiku, and a manuscript consultation, and an online forum, and an open mic,
and an offer to make a one-time contribution. And yet here you are, not tilting toward
any of it, resolved to make the kind of change no one has the recipe for, or coupon,
or registration form. More like a journey through the Serengeti, or a weird glitch, or a leap
in the dark, or an island of birds and wild seeds greeting each other from the shadows.

** This week’s poem is comprised with (slightly altered) subject lines of emails I received over the first 10 days of 2023.
